10 Ways To Help Your Baby’s Language

During the first couple years, babies learn how to speak as well as understand what they are told. Here are ten ways to help your baby’s language learning.
Engage your baby in dialogue during daily routine and play. You will ask your baby: how is the weather, how is the meal, how does he/she like the new toy, and so on. Remember it should be a “dialogue”, which means you have to give your baby a chance to respond to you as well as listen to you.
Describe what is happening as it occurs; use the labels that your baby needs to learn. If you are not a talkative person, start by describing what you are doing: dish washing, folding napkins, or feeding your baby.
Talk to and interact with your baby; slow down and encourage him/her to think about what he/she is saying. Do not just repeat what your baby spoke, or correct what he/she said. Make your and your baby’s conversation move forward.
Play games with sounds; tell stories and sing songs. There are so many songs and stories that give language or sound stimulation to your baby. Here are some samples (Honey, could you put links to the goods you want to sell? Probably, children’s books and CDs would be good)
Provide your baby with interesting experiences that in turn can provide conversation materials; really listen to him/her. In a playground, you may say “I see you on top of the steps. You are so high. The swing is so fast. Do you like it? How do you feel?”
Offer new experiences to talk about that relate to your baby’s expanding world. Take a walk in your neighborhood, visit a museum or a zoo, go to grocery shopping, and many other experiences you can make for your baby.
Share new and novel objects to engage your baby’s interest and to encourage fun dialogues about those objects. It doesn’t have to be a toy or an item for your baby. If you got a new colorful scarf, or a new tool, your baby is going to be interested in it and you can talk about it with him/her.
Use questions as important language tools and encourage your baby to ask questions when he/she needs more information. If your question is requiring Yes or No answer, it is not a good tool for your baby’s language development. Begin your questions with “How, What, or Why”.
Make book experiences pleasurable for your baby; point out pictures, rhyming sounds, and fun characters. While reading to your baby, enjoy reading by yourself. Then, your baby will learn that reading is such a pleasant activity.
Read to your baby. The more, the better.
Try to use these ten ways to help your baby’s language learning and make a habit of using these tools.
